Alternative Fuels
With the rise and rise of fuel prices around the world, how long will it be before we start considering the huge benefits of making use of alternative fuel sources?
I have often wondered while driving past petrol stations, in how many years will it be before we start having a widespread campaign towards moving from our traditional fuel source (fossil fuel if anyone has been living under a rock, or in their computer for that matter!). I’ve seen buses running on ethanol, I’ve also seen the hybrid cars that are running Petrol-Electric engines.
The two Petrol-Electric models i’ve seen on sale locally in Australia are the Honda Civic based model and the Toyota Prius.
I’ve heard and read much about the hydrogen cell based fuel source as something that is hoped to be used sometime down the track.
Petrol prices are going to go up and up, I don’t think there would be too much doubt about that happening.
It is just my opinion, nothing more, but I would like to see governments offering subsidies to individuals who to purchase these more eco-friendly hybrid type vehicles. It would be a nice thing to offer the choice to the consumer. The Australian government has previously offered the new home buyers’ grant to assist the average Australian to buy a new home. (The Australian dream of owning your own home, etc…)
The Honda Civic Hybrid as far as I know is a second generation type vehicle, as is the new Toyota Prius. Although not a completely alternative fuel solution, it (Hybrids) is definately a starting point.
I would like to see more of these types of vehicles offered in the new car market at a competitive price.
Hopefully, when it comes time for me to buy a car of my own, these types of vehicles will be the norm, and are offered at a reasonable price.
Wishful thinking? I hope not, I hope that it really does happen.
