Telstra I-Mode Launch date announced
As reported in today’s Australian IT, Telstra is set to launch it’s i-mode services on November 1, 2004.
They have lined up, according to the article, 60 local content providers. Although, i’m in no rush to jump into the queue and see what all the fuss is about. I will definately keep an eye out for anything interesting before evaluating if there is any reason why I should move to using i-mode on Telstra.
I do wonder though, how much of the actual services provided by NTTDoCoMo, will actually be made available via Telstra’s planned i-mode rollout?
And will it really work as well on non-3G handsets as it would on 3G handsets? (Yes, I know NTTDocomo does have it running on their 2.5G [that's GPRS] network).
More on GPRS via wikipedia. And more on 3G via wikipedia. (Perhaps I should just link to wikipedia articles whenever I mention something that some may not know too much about?). i-mode on wikipedia.
As I understand it, Telstra will be launching i-mode services before it launches it’s 3G network (reported in the Australian IT article as being mid-2005).
Here is a “comment” column article posted on the Australian IT website titled “Telco seeks a youth buy date“.
On a side note, I noticed the orange XML RSS Icon on the i-mode.com website. It’s basically an RSS feed of their press releases.
Noticed it on the main page under the heading “Press Releases”. That’s pretty cool.
But then, is RSS only for the geeks? The only non-geeks that I know that make use of RSS are blog readers/authors.
On i-mode, here is an article on thefeature.com that offers an interesting perspective into i-mode.
