3G download @ 2Mbps on 3
Wow, this is really good news for those who are on 3
They (Hutchison Telecom) are “planning to accelerate download speeds to 2Mbps within 18 months” from 384kbps.
That’s faster than most ADSL connections available in Australia at the moment.
And it’s even faster than iBurst and Unwired two local Australian Wireless internet providers.
To utilise the 3G network all you need to do is signup for the NetConnect PCMCIA cards and plug that into your laptop.
So we have 2 competing wireless technologies, I wonder which is going to be more successful in the local market?
Oh, you can also send SMS messages when you have the NetConnect card connected to your laptop. That’s always handy.
Hopefully future SmartPhones are capable of working on the 3G network. It just seems so logical, doesn’t it?
On that note, I saw some news on Windows Mobile 2005 (aka Magneto).
Interesting that the .NET CF is going to be built into the ROM for future devices. (according to that article anyway).
And on another related note, just saw this posted on over at whirlpool.net.au.
And here are some blog links:
1. Dr Neil Roodyn moved to using Unwired for his broadband net connection, and is now using Engin for his VOIP service.
2. Cameron Reilly tries the NetConnect card.
