highlights from recent posts

Sunday, November 28th, 2004

Just wanted to highlight two excellent blog posts that really got me thinking when I read them (probably explains why I left lengthy comments on both posts?).
The first one is by Darren Neimke, who posts some of his ideas in regards to User Groups for 2005.
Maybe one of the other things we may need is [...]

New Java Vulnerability

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2004

Just noticed this on the F-Secure Antivirus blog:
“Finnish security researcher Jouko Pynnonen has found a vulnerability in Sun Java plugin that is used by most web browsers. Using this vulnerability a malicous applet can espace Java sandbox, and do whatever it wants on the system. Java Runtime version 1.4.2_05 and older are vulnerable to this [...]

NullPointerException on phone?

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2004

A few nights ago, I decided to install the software that came with my phone for IR connectivity.
Decided to also download a sample app. I ended up finding Tetris. I installed it, and after I quit the game, it threw an exception.
If I wasn’t a programmer, I’d probably just ignore it.
But as a programmer, I [...]

Primus to offer 6mbps ADSL

Monday, November 22nd, 2004

Primus Telecom (via their internet arm, iPrimus) have launched their new 6mbps ADSL service in Australia.
Initially Primus will install their own DSLAM equipment at 200 Telstra ADSL exchanges, and roll out more.
Another ISP rolling out their own DSLAM equipment at Telstra ADSL exchanges is iiNET.
I’m sure there may well be other ISPs involved as well [...]

australia vs nz

Saturday, November 20th, 2004

i’m just sitting here watching the cricket right now.
although it is just Jason Gillespie and Glen McGrath batting, it’s fairly amusing
The McGrath 6 was absolutely priceless! With his big grin straight afterwards and then staring at his bat, he was probably wondering “wow! I did that? with this thing?”

Aussies working too hard?

Friday, November 19th, 2004

When you read that title, you’d be thinking… “Say, what?”
But it’s true, well, according to this article anyway.
Apparently we’re working the most amount of hours for people in the developed world.
Good or bad?
Guess we’re just working so hard to either keep up, or be one step ahead of the rest of the world [...]

Optus & Vodafone have finalised their 3G deal

Friday, November 19th, 2004

Looks like Optus and Vodafone have finalised their deal to share 3G radio access and network infrastructure.
- Source 1, 2.
I’m looking forward to this… It means the 4 Australian carriers will all be offering 3G services in conjunction with their GSM service.
That’s 2 3G networks shared among 4.
Hrm…
Let’s say there is something wrong [...]
