What? Avalon isn’t going to give me a new UI?

Monday, January 31st, 2005

There seems to be a misconception by many that installing the Avalon CTP on their systems will give them a whole new 3D User Interface.
Here is the most recent post:
I installed everything needed so how do I run it now???
Will i see new user interface in 3d or is this just for programming???
I’ve seen the [...]

Another spam referrer

Friday, January 28th, 2005

While browsing through blog stats, I noticed the following domain:
tecrep-inc.net
There seems to be a lot of spam referrers coming to my blog where the referrer is a subdomain of the main tecrep-inc.net site.
In some cases the incoming IP of the spammer that comes via this tecrep-inc.net subdomain also came a few times to my blog [...]

Happy Australia day!

Tuesday, January 25th, 2005

January 26th, is Australia day.
I’d like to wish all Australians out there a very Happy Australia day.
It’s a day of remembering who we are, and what it is about this great brown land we love so much.
A day to celebrate our nation, and it’s people.
I thought i’d paste the lyrics to one of the [...]

MSN Messenger Error Message: 81000378

Sunday, January 23rd, 2005

While attempting to log into MSN Messenger this evening it kept giving me the error message: 81000378
It said something about being unable to load my contact list.
I thought, this might be something to do with MSN Messenger (eg: some part of it was down for maintenance).
Noticed it said it was all systems go!
Next chain of [...]

XAML + Flash = Xamlon Flash Edition

Thursday, January 20th, 2005

I was browsing around a few blogs and ended up at the Xamlon website today, and noticed that they now have a Flash Edition.
What is Xamlon?
Xamlon aims to allow developers to utilise the ease of XAML to develop their own User Interfaces.
I remember reading back in October 2003, one of the blogs on weblogs.asp.net [...]

Paypal gets Australianised!

Thursday, January 20th, 2005

Paypal have launched their Australian website.
Could be useful… Means that Paypal supports our Aussie currency. Previously when you made a purchase, you had to choose to make payments in other currencies (usually US/UK/EU, etc…).
Also means that if I develop some software products I can sell them online using Australian dollars rather than having to list [...]

Comment Spam Prevention Technique – NoFollow

Wednesday, January 19th, 2005

This is a new initiative to prevent comment spam.
There are perhaps many more blogs than I list below mentioning this…
- GoogleBlog
- MSN Search Blog
- Six Apart
There is a Wordpress plugin already developed which implements the nofollow stuff, so you don’t need to wait until there’s an updated wordpress that makes use of it.
Let’s say your [...]

Sonoma and Portege m200

Wednesday, January 19th, 2005

I know the Sonoma announcement is going to be tommorow (over in USA), but they had their Australian one today.
I really hope they are planning a revised version of the Portege m200 Tablet PC which utilises Sonoma.
Although the Satellite based Tablet PC is going to probably have aSonoma based model, I think there’s still a [...]

Technology for this year and beyond to look out for

Saturday, January 15th, 2005

Many people have many opinions (in other words, everyone has their own opinion!) about what is going to be the technology for the year.
I’m going to take a different perspective, I want to focus on what technologies I should be looking at in order to prepare myself for next year and the year after.
What’s going [...]
