Happy Australia day!

January 26th, is Australia day.

I’d like to wish all Australians out there a very Happy Australia day.

It’s a day of remembering who we are, and what it is about this great brown land we love so much.

A day to celebrate our nation, and it’s people.

I thought i’d paste the lyrics to one of the commonly played songs this time of year.

I am Australian

I came from the dreamtime from the dusty red soil plains
I am the ancient heart, the keeper of the flame
I stood upon the rocky shore
I watched the tall ships come
For forty thousand years I’d been the first Australian
I came upon the prison ship bowed down by iron chains.
I cleared the land, endured the lash and waited for the rains.
I’m a settler.
I’m a farmer’s wife on a dry and barren run
A convict then a free man I became Australian
I’m the daughter of a digger who sought the mother lode
The girl became a woman on the long and dusty road
I’m a child of the depression
I saw the good times come
I’m a bushy, I’m a battler
I am Australian
Chorus
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice:
I am, you are, we are Australian
I am, you are, we are Australian
I’m a teller of stories
I’m a singer of songs
I am Albert Namatjira
I paint the ghostly gums
I am Clancy on his horse
I’m Ned Kelly on the run
I’m the one who waltzed Matilda
I am Australian
I’m the hot wind from the desert
I’m the black soil of the plains
I’m the mountains and the valleys
I’m the drought and flooding rains
I am the rock, I am the sky
The rivers when they run
The spirit of this great land
I am Australian
Chorus
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice:
I am, you are, we are Australian
I am, you are, we are Australian

We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice:
I am, you are, we are Australian

That quote is true to many of us.

Many of us were born in Australia, there are also many who weren’t.

Some of our parents and/or grandparents migrated to Australia in search for an improved life.

Both of my parents came to Australia in the late 1970′s. A long time ago now, but both have told me stories about what living in Australia has meant for them.

My parents went through a lot, to get to Australia, so my brother and I should count ourselves lucky we didn’t go through all that.

Are we a lucky country?

In many ways we are mate.

So tommorow, we shall sing our national anthemnot this, and but maybe one of these.

Have a great day mate!

You can tell if you’re an Aussie when tomorrow the anthem plays and you get a lump in your throat or when you read the words of the song you just posted and shed a tear as I just did. I’m volunteering on an information booth in Sydney tomorrow … I do it every year and can’t think of a better way to spend the day than being in service of Australia. Goodonyermate …. and avagoodone.
