RFID Tags and Extending AFL Goal Posts
While on my way to work this morning, I was listening to SEN and there was some talk about the AFL extending the goal posts at various venues around Australia.
I remember the last time they were talking about this on the radio, and I remembered what I was thinking about at that time.
I thought, hey, perhaps we could have these RFID or other tags which would produce different types of beeps depending on which set of posts the ball went through.
Not sure how well the RFID tags will work, but some sort of little device that can be embedded into the footy would work.
Oh, how about those things used in shops that have tags on them? I think that would work.
Maybe somehow extend the height of the sensors or have a sensor beam (if at all possible) to detect when the ball passes through.
I’m sure there are many ways various technologies could help a lot of sports.
I reckon a Tablet PC would go well to replace the whiteboards for coaches to use.

We are the actual manufacturers of these goalposts the idea you have has been tried but there is no accuracy to this device if it goes over the top it does not identify where the ball is and is usless we have many dealings with the afl and the conclusion was to extend the flagpoles to 15mtr this was a more economic way to go as ball tracking is very expensive and difficult to do
