An Australian Politician Who Blogs
Last Wednesday I posted a blog post about the possible introduction of an Australian Law which the Australian government hopes to enforce.
The article stated that it is supported by the two major political parties (Labor and Liberal Parties).
Anyway, back onto the topic at hand, I received an interesting comment by Senator Andrew Bartlett (of the Australian Democrats Party [side comment: look, they even have RSS feeds!]… He was their former party leader).
Ok, I’m impressed that he actually has a blog, and it’s an interesting read if you’ve got any interest in the Australian Political scene.
Here’s his post on the possible introduction of the law.
I’ve found this comment in his post interesting:
The Parliamentary Electoral Matters Committee is currently conducting an inquiry into the electoral laws, as it does after every election. If you have views or concerns on this proposed change (or anything else to do with our electoral laws), I’d encourage you to put in a submission. Most MPs are not particularly internet-savvy (myself included) and will often simply not be aware of some of the consequences, unless somebody tells them
Many of his points are quite relevant, no matter which party you plan to support in the next election, or supported in the previous one(s).
I’ll have to admit though, when I first saw the comment in my email asking to be approved, I wasn’t sure whether or not it was actually the senator, or someone else writing it for him (the comment post IP was from the Australian Parliament House).
But having done some digging around, it seems fairly authentic (the blog and the comment on my blog).
So that’s 2 politicians I know of who have blogs. 1 Australian, and 1 on the EU Commisioner. (ok, i’m sure there’s more, but that’s all I remember being mentioned).
Now I wonder if there are any other Australian MPs who blog?
It always seems nicer to hear something straight from an individual rather than being filtered, and “shined” and then passed onto you.
There’s absolutely no doubt about that, which is why blogging is such a good communication tool. Knowing why blogging isn’t the end of the story though. Knowing how to search the blogosphere to extract the relevant feedback is also very important.
I still don’t know how big the Australian blogosphere is, but I know it’s growing all the time. Not just technical blogs, but also the personal types, as well as the political ones.

You can add me to the list of Members of Parliament who blog and who have a RSS feed http://www.gordonmoyes.com/feed/ .
